The 3 Mistakes Keeping Men Over 40 From Getting Back in Shapeπͺ

If you're a guy over 40 who's tried to get back in shape and it just hasn't workedβit's probably not your effort that's the problem. It's your approach. Your body after 40 is not the same body you had in your 20s and 30s: hormones have shifted, testosterone is lower, cortisol is higher, recovery takes longer, and your stress load is probably at an all-time high.

Here's the reality: your testosterone is produced during sleep, growth hormone peaks during sleep, and your body literally repairs itself while you're asleep. If you're getting 5-6 hours a night, you are actively working against your own hormonesβno matter how hard you train or how clean you eat.
Personally, I use an Oura ring (no affiliation) to analyze my sleep quality. Seeing the hard data on my deep sleep, HRV, and recovery has been a game-changer for understanding what actually moves the needle.

Avoid these 3 mistakes:
β 1. Doing too much, too fast β Build one habit first. Start with 3 focused strength sessions per week.
β 2. Ignoring sleep and recovery β Aim for 7-9 hours. Cut off eating by 7pm. Dim lights after 8pm.
β 3. Making cardio the centerpiece β Make strength training your foundation. Cardio is a supplement, not the main event.
β‘ Bonus mistake: not eating enough protein. Most men over 40 are severely undereating protein. Target 0.7-1g per pound of body weight daily. Track for a few days and you might be surprised! Focus on pasture-raised eggs, red meat, wild fish, and Greek yogurt.
